A good start is vital, and this is true for the day, as it is for the year. There’s no better time than January to review your morning routine, and with a few tweaks you can kickstart your day, powering your potential for success for the coming year!

Practical tips to get your morning off to the best possible start

If you want some basic and general tips to make starting the day simpler and more productive, consider these practical tips. Along with a good night’s sleep, we’ve collected some great ideas for supercharging your morning.

Exercise

Exercising in the morning is a great way to start your day off on the right foot. Exercise can help to improve your mood, increase your energy levels, and improve your overall health. Additionally, exercise has been shown to improve brain function and memory. Even something like a short 10 minute jog will increase your heart rate and get you going for the day.

Take some time for yourself

One of the best ways to start your day off right is to take some time for yourself. This may mean taking a few minutes to meditate or doing some other form of relaxation. Taking some time for yourself will help you to relax and clear your mind before starting your day, helping you to get off to a great start.

Make a list of things you need to do

Making a list of things you need to do each day can help you to stay organized and on track. Having a list will help you to remember what tasks need to be completed and will help you to prioritize your time. As you move through the day, crossing items off of your list can give you a sense of accomplishment and help you to stay motivated.

Be consistent

One way to start your day off right is to get up at the same time each day. This will help to train your body’s natural circadian rhythm and can make it easier for you to wake up in the morning. Getting up at the same time each day can help you to feel more rested and less stressed.

Do something silly or fun

Yes, mornings are often hectic, and there’s not always time to joke around. Then again, you should have some fun every day, so why not squeeze in some silliness at the start? Whether you dance, tell jokes or send a silly photo or message to a friend or loved one, putting a smile on your face and others, can put you in a great mood to start the day.

Good breakfast routines to support your body, with a great start to the day

With many people firmly believing “breakfast is the most important meal of the day”, it is vital you get off to a great start. A filling breakfast which keeps you feeling full until lunch is helpful, with the author of The Protein-Packed Breakfast Club, Lauren Harris-Pincus, R.D, suggesting you eat:

· A minimum of 20 grams of protein in the morning, which is three eggs of three quarters of a cup of Greek yoghurt

· About eight grams of fibre, which can be found in oatmeal or a cup of raspberries

· Around 10 grams of healthy fats, which includes the modern favourite of avocado or nut butter

You can see why oats are a very popular choice these days, and an oatmeal dish with coffee is a very common way to kickstart your day while fuelling up for the early mornings. A Full English breakfast looks, sounds and tastes appealing, but it might leave you feeling sluggish.

Are you interested in following celebrity morning routines?

It is natural we are drawn to the life of celebrities and famous people, but the morning routine of some big names sounds like a punishment as opposed to something you enjoy.

One of the most famous celebrity morning routines comes from Mark Wahlberg.

The actor is said to wake at 2.30am and prays for half an hour. A healthy breakfast of oats, blueberries, eggs or peanut butter powers his first workout of the day at 4.40am, with plenty of stretching. After this, he enjoys a post-workout breakfast of turkey burgers, enjoys a few holes of golf and then returns in time to see the kids off to school.

After more turkey snacks, Wahlberg opts for a cryo-chamber recovery session, and after chicken, eggs and salad at 1030am, he gets to work at 11am.

Jenifer Aniston is said to be an early riser on work days, commonly starting at 4.30am, but on days off, she rises between 8 and 9 am. The Friends star starts with a face wash, moisturising and meditation session for 20 minutes, and then enjoys a cup of warm water and lemon.
For breakfast, Aniston enjoys a protein shake with fruits like frozen cherries and blueberries. The actress’s morning routine is completed with a spin class and yoga session, and then she’s ready to face the world.

Not every celebrity opts for a punishing routine though, and you might approve of Zendaya’s start to the day. The actress reviews her notifications for up to an hour in bed, and then takes a shower and indulges her skincare routine. Around two hours after she first woke, the Golden Globe winner settles down for a sweet breakfast of pancakes, berries and Nutella.

How do morning routines differ around the world?

If you want some fresh inspiration in starting your day, how about morning routines from around the world?

In China, collective exercise is a significant part of the morning routine. Many businesses insist employees start the work day by working out, and even retired people commonly congregate in the park for stretching and light exercise. This focus on fitness at all ages ensures Chinese people get their day off to a flying start.

In Japan, it is common for people to start the day by tidying, and this even stretches to the workplace. Order and neatness are important in Japan, so it makes sense that this activity is part of the process in preparing for the day ahead.

Swedish people are used to dark mornings, and many of them embrace the silence and slowness at the start of the day. Early morning meditations are popular across the world, and in Scandinavia, many people love easing themselves into the day while feeling at one with the world.

The United States of America is a vast, and varied country, so you might not expect there to be a common morning routine. However, a 2018 One Poll study, of more than 2,000 Americans, found 52% of respondents started their day with a coffee. 41% said they enjoy a tasty breakfast to start the day, and 40% said they workout. Around a third of respondents said they read the news to get going.

A good night’s sleep is the secret weapon to a productive morning

Of course, the bedrock of a good morning comes with how you end the night before. There is no denying a great night’s sleep is the ideal way to wake up refreshed, and ready to take on the world.

You should sleep in a cool room, turn off electronic devices for at least half an hour before you try to sleep, and make sure you have a comfortable bed set-up.

The benefits of comfy mattresses are well known, while a Pillowtop bed with a top layer of comfort will ensure you spring out of bed each and every morning.

My experience with Sloomy has been extremely disappointing from start to finish. The bed ordered via Debenhams for my vulnerable mother-in-law, who suffers from COPD and has limited mobility following a stroke, failed to arrive on the scheduled delivery date with no communication, update, or explanation. We had spent the day preparing for the delivery, including removing her existing bed, only to be left without any bed at all when the delivery failed to turn up. As a result, she was forced to spend the night sleeping on a sofa, causing significant discomfort and distress given her medical conditions. Despite the seriousness of the situation, there was little acknowledgment of the impact this had. When the bed finally arrived the following day, we discovered that the headboard could not be assembled because the required fittings were either missing or defective. What should have been a straightforward resolution turned into a frustrating and prolonged process. Attempts to obtain support have been met with slow responses, with Debenhams and sloomy passignbuck between each other, repeated requests for the same information, and a complete lack of ownership of the issue. We have been repeatedly asked to wait for escalations that never seem to happen, provide photographs multiple times, and start the process over with different agents who appear unaware of previous correspondence. Most concerning has been the apparent lack of urgency despite it being made clear that the customer affected is vulnerable. The combination of a missed delivery, poor communication, an incomplete product, lengthy delays in customer service responses, and failure to resolve the problem promptly has left us with very little confidence in Sloomy's customer care. Overall, this experience has been stressful, frustrating, and wholly unacceptable. I would not expect a vulnerable customer to be treated in this manner, and I hope significant improvements are made to both delivery reliability and after-sales support.

I ordered my sons bed to arrive two days before his birthday, I was pleasantly surprised when I received a text message to say it would actually arrive 6 days before his birthday, delivery was scheduled between 6am and 11am. On the delivery day I was at work and by 2.30pm I received a message saying the delivery van had broken down and they would contact me with an alternative date. Now I can understand that these things happen, what I do not understand and was infuriating was that I must have rang the landline number 20 times and the mobile number used to text me the same amount of times and that no one pciked up or answered the phone. The landline number just rang 5 times and then went dead. The service was shocking and being in limbo worrying if my son would get his bed before his birthday was frustrating. I did eventually get my bed at 6.35am on a bank holiday Monday morning!! I will admit the actual bed is very good quality and I cannot understimate this My advice for this company is that be aware if something goes wrong then you will be annoyed an frustrated

I would strongly advise others to think carefully before ordering from Sloomy. The bed I received was faulty and not fit for use. From the outset, resolving the issue was made unnecessarily difficult. Despite explaining that I am disabled, I was repeatedly asked to repackage and handle a large, broken bed using the original packaging, which was not a reasonable or accessible request. When I asked for communication by email as a reasonable adjustment, this was ignored. I was instead pushed into phone contact, and when I explained I record calls to help manage my disability, the representative refused to continue the conversation. At no point was a fair or practical resolution offered. The overall handling of this issue shows a complete lack of customer care and disregard for accessibility. This has been stressful, upsetting, and entirely avoidable. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this company.

Appalling Service and are not interested in retaining customers and obviously do not want a business. Placed an order with a specified delivery date to be advised by message that they cannot deliver until a week later than this. No apology and not interested in resolving. Do not use this company
