The impacts of having a high-quality mattress on your health are very surprising - it’s important to choose a mattress that’s high-quality and right for you. Getting a decent amount of sleep each night and sleeping on a good mattress can change so many aspects of your physical and mental well-being.

In this guide, we’ll take a look at how a good mattress can help with your pesky allergy symptoms that keep you up at night, and how those with back pain can rethink their mattress types to help with their aches. We’ll also discuss how good quality mattresses are amazing for your mental health, as they improve cognitive function and your moods from day to day. So, let’s begin improving your lifestyle, health and sleep quality, starting with your mattress!

Mattress Types To Consider For Back Pain

If you’re someone who routinely wakes up with aches and pains, finding the right high-quality mattress that relieves pressure in your joints and neck is an essential way to improve your sleep quality.

Adults need around 7-8 hours of sleep at the very least, so if you are someone who is waking up with back pains during the night, choosing the right mattress can be a good way to start with alleviating your symptoms.

Although we can’t promise miracles, we recommend investing in one of our high-quality open coil mattresses or pocket spring mattresses. Designed with thousands of internal springs inside, these mattresses are firm and can give you plenty of support as you sleep during the night. Whether you’re an ambitious athlete who loves to regularly hit the gym but needs a lot of support for muscle soreness, or you’re someone who is healing from an injury, mattresses like these can be really helpful when it comes to alleviating pain and speeding up the recovery process.

Plus, these mattresses are very good for reducing noise and motion transfer, particularly our pocket spring mattresses. This means you can get many nights of uninterrupted sleep as you won’t hear or feel your partner get up as much during the night to get a glass of water!

How Good Quality Mattresses Help Mental Health

High-quality mattresses can improve mental health, as they make integral aspects to your sleep. From relaxed moods and improved cognitive function, good mattresses are like the keys to doors which open to better lifestyle changes.

Comfortable and long-lasting mattresses that are made with premium materials can reduce anxiety from day to day, helping you get a long and deep sleep each night. By resetting your hormones and reducing cortisol, good sleep on a great mattress is what’s essential for your day to day well-being.

Poor sleep is closely linked to low moods and irritability, so getting good sleep on a high-quality mattress is essential for supporting neurotransmitters like serotonin and dopamine - all that's needed to make you smile and happy from day to day!

Recommended Mattresses For Allergies & Cleaning Tips

If you frequently find yourself sneezing, choosing the right mattress can be a good step forward to alleviate your allergies. More often than not, dust mites can trigger your sneezing, so finding the right mattress type can really help with this.

These tend to be mattresses that have springs inside, which encourage more airflow, such as pocket springs, traditional mattresses and open coil ones. Improved air circulation can help deter a build-up of moisture, mould and dust mites that are often the culprit for excessive sneezing.

Another tip is to use a breathable mattress protector, which can become a barrier from allergens - it helps to prevent dust, moisture and skin particles from settling in the mattress itself over time. Washable hyper-allergenic mattresses protectors can be regularly cleaned to maintain a fresher sleeping environment, so you might find yourself itching and sneezing less throughout the night!

Regularly vacuuming your mattress with an upholstery attachment and rotating it 180 degrees every 3-4 months can also make a huge difference for maintaining its quality over time. It’s an essential way to clear away the things that provoke our allergies.

Health Related Signs That You Might Need A New Mattress

After 7-10 years, the quality of a mattress tends to decline and you may be able to spot some health signs that indicate you’re ready for a replacement one.

One of the first main things to look out for if your mattress is between 7 and years old is that you’re persistently waking up with aches and pains. As your mattress becomes old, an uneven surface is created from the sags and dips that form over time, causing pressure on certain areas of your body. By taking a look at your mattress and identifying whether or not the surface is uneven, it can often be a tell-tale sign that it’s time for a new one -  it can have a huge impact on posture, stiffness, tension and headaches!

Another health-related sign that your mattress is too old can be skin irritation. A build up of allergens in your old mattress can cause your skin to itch, making it a big sign that it’s time for a replacement one. Of course, it’s important to consult your doctor if you’re unsure about anything!

My experience with Sloomy has been extremely disappointing from start to finish. The bed ordered via Debenhams for my vulnerable mother-in-law, who suffers from COPD and has limited mobility following a stroke, failed to arrive on the scheduled delivery date with no communication, update, or explanation. We had spent the day preparing for the delivery, including removing her existing bed, only to be left without any bed at all when the delivery failed to turn up. As a result, she was forced to spend the night sleeping on a sofa, causing significant discomfort and distress given her medical conditions. Despite the seriousness of the situation, there was little acknowledgment of the impact this had. When the bed finally arrived the following day, we discovered that the headboard could not be assembled because the required fittings were either missing or defective. What should have been a straightforward resolution turned into a frustrating and prolonged process. Attempts to obtain support have been met with slow responses, with Debenhams and sloomy passignbuck between each other, repeated requests for the same information, and a complete lack of ownership of the issue. We have been repeatedly asked to wait for escalations that never seem to happen, provide photographs multiple times, and start the process over with different agents who appear unaware of previous correspondence. Most concerning has been the apparent lack of urgency despite it being made clear that the customer affected is vulnerable. The combination of a missed delivery, poor communication, an incomplete product, lengthy delays in customer service responses, and failure to resolve the problem promptly has left us with very little confidence in Sloomy's customer care. Overall, this experience has been stressful, frustrating, and wholly unacceptable. I would not expect a vulnerable customer to be treated in this manner, and I hope significant improvements are made to both delivery reliability and after-sales support.

I ordered my sons bed to arrive two days before his birthday, I was pleasantly surprised when I received a text message to say it would actually arrive 6 days before his birthday, delivery was scheduled between 6am and 11am. On the delivery day I was at work and by 2.30pm I received a message saying the delivery van had broken down and they would contact me with an alternative date. Now I can understand that these things happen, what I do not understand and was infuriating was that I must have rang the landline number 20 times and the mobile number used to text me the same amount of times and that no one pciked up or answered the phone. The landline number just rang 5 times and then went dead. The service was shocking and being in limbo worrying if my son would get his bed before his birthday was frustrating. I did eventually get my bed at 6.35am on a bank holiday Monday morning!! I will admit the actual bed is very good quality and I cannot understimate this My advice for this company is that be aware if something goes wrong then you will be annoyed an frustrated

I would strongly advise others to think carefully before ordering from Sloomy. The bed I received was faulty and not fit for use. From the outset, resolving the issue was made unnecessarily difficult. Despite explaining that I am disabled, I was repeatedly asked to repackage and handle a large, broken bed using the original packaging, which was not a reasonable or accessible request. When I asked for communication by email as a reasonable adjustment, this was ignored. I was instead pushed into phone contact, and when I explained I record calls to help manage my disability, the representative refused to continue the conversation. At no point was a fair or practical resolution offered. The overall handling of this issue shows a complete lack of customer care and disregard for accessibility. This has been stressful, upsetting, and entirely avoidable. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this company.

Appalling Service and are not interested in retaining customers and obviously do not want a business. Placed an order with a specified delivery date to be advised by message that they cannot deliver until a week later than this. No apology and not interested in resolving. Do not use this company
